There are many ways to treat stretch marks, from high-tech laser surgery to over the counter lotions. Procedures like dermabrasion, chemical peels and laser surgery should be performed by a professional, and with the permission of your doctor. These methods can be expensive, and most insurance will not cover them for stretch marks since they are considered cosmetic. If you opt for one of these, do your homework and ensure you go to a licensed, reputable expert.
A less expensive and less risky method is to try over the counter creams and oils. Vitamin E has shown good results in reducing the appearance of stretch marks, so try a cream with a high concentration of that ingredient. Most of this type of product can be applied as often as you like, but be sure to read the directions first.
Finally, be aware that genetics play a role in the occurrence and severity of stretch marks. Some people are just more prone to them, while others reach their ninetieth birthday without a mark on them! However, you can make your skin more supple and make stretch marks less noticeable with any of the methods above.
